Happy Italiaversary!
Wow, so aside from the shock of remembering my e-mail and password for this tumblr account, what I find even more shocking is the fact that today (roughly accounting for time-line differences and slight calendar shifts) is the two-year anniversary of my and Katie Freeland’s first day in Italy.  Or maybe it was nighttime.  I honestly don’t know.  We dubbed that trip, and the 42+ hours...

Αθήνα, Ἑλλάς
Athens, Greece Greece for Spring Break.  I know that’s a cliché and all, but never in a million years did I imagine that I’d get to do it! Oh life abroad, you’re quite amazing. Okay, not to forget the underlying theme of most all my adventures, this one, like most, started out all too early in the morning.  At 5:30 am we left the gates of Villa Aurora behind us and headed down the hill to the bus...

I almost forgot to blog about my wonderful day! →
Luckily, however, I remembered. So, this morning I woke up with a runny nose, swollen throat, and the feel of ice on my face. As it is this Italian wind tends to seep through our closed windows, but these days the wind is crazy forceful and so, tend to actually blow open our windows during the…

Ripasso (Review)
The past few weeks have closely resembled a blur of confusion. I’m not sure what all happened, but I do know that time is absolutely flying by. Last week was the first week of the second trimester here, so we started new classes. I switched to a different class so that I could more thoroughly learn the language; a move which I believe made my teacher angry, but it’s working out for me,...

An Attempt in Italian:
meganmyers: Non ho provato ancora a scrivere qua in Italiano. Non lo so come sarà. Ma ho pensato che proverei. Mi dispiace se non è coretto… Allora, ieri era un giorno triste. Ha piovuto tutto la mattina. Tutti i ragazzi hanno voluto a dormire. Nessuno vuole andare a scuola. Siamo pronti per Natale.  Per Natale io e le mie amiche (Katie Freeland e Laura Jacques) andremo in tre paesi. Primo...

Murphy's Law
Today I went to Ravenna and Bologna. I was super excited because it didn’t rain. The excitement died, however, the moment I got off the bus. What was that? A beautiful cloudless sky? Yes. Let’s take a picture of it with the pretty fall trees! Oh wait, let’s NOT because my camera’s dead! Woohoo. *Initiate ultra-sarcastic skipping and jumping.* It was NOT my day. I was so...

Sono Morta
meganmyers: Today I took four exams: Esame di Gramatica, Esame di Fonetica (scritto), Esame di Fonetica (orale), and Esame di Conversazione. I don’t feel good about any of them. I have three more tomorrow. One for History of Art, one for Composition, and one for Cooking. I’ll probably not feel good about those either. However, a certain package came today which makes my life a little better....

Sessantasette
Today is officially my 67th day in Italy. That is 3 days longer than I have ever been away from home in my life.  I’m starting to freak out just a little. Life here has been good. Cold, but good. Apparently winter comes early here, and when people back home say, “Oh, Florence weather is practically like Tennessee weather,” they use the word “practically” in the sense...

Napoli Part 4 (Poppi)
When we finally got back to the school is was dark and we all hiked up the massive hill to our rooms, dragging our luggage behind us. Pretty much we fell asleep as soon as we hit the beds. Didn’t wake up until noon the next day. Once I woke up, it was my plan to do homework. I didn’t. Instead I checked my facebook, then my e-mail, then my other e-mail. Then my web-mail… Then I picked up my...

Napoli Part 3
So since the entire day had been so hot, the 2 hour boat ride and its windiness was a welcome journey. I actually fell asleep on my bench. Once we got back to Napoli and in the bus to go to the hotel they then made the happy announcement that we were NOT going back to the hotel, but to the center of Napoli to look at things and buildings and they would give us information that we needed to fill...

Napoli Part 2
The next morning we headed off to SORRENTO! My favorite. Our normal group wandered around together. Me, Katie, Holly, Jonathan, Joe and Michael. We looked at pretty stores that cost a lot of money, and other ones with crappy stuff. Then we decided to go more into the residential district. So we walked down some streets till we came to this square where there’s a fantastic looking hotel. ...

Napoli Part 1
This is just to catch everyone on the trips I’ve been on. It’ll be in many parts. Just a warning. Day one. We woke up and ate breakfast at 6:40 and packed sack lunches and left on a bus at 7. It was supposed to be a seven hour bus ride. Somehow, though, I think we turned it into a nine-hour ride. We stopped once to get gas. The stations here are gigantic. There’s always, like, a...

Renaissance King
Finally another weekend. I thought that after my last weekend experience where there was nothing to do that perhaps I wouldn’t be so fond of weekends here. I am happy to say that that is indeed not the case. I can’t WAIT for vespers tonight. It’s been a full week. Tuesday was our first day of orientation. We went to meetings and took notes and listened. Then later went...

Die Another Day
Today was a tiresome adventure. My friends Jonathan and Holly are at the school now and since today was Saturday, we all decided to take a Sabbath walk. First we just strolled around the school grounds, which are turning out to be much larger than I thought, and then we headed off campus in a pretty looking direction. Before we got to far, though I got real windy and started to sprinkle, so we...

Mysterious Rooftop
Somehow I have the feeling that none of this is real and any minute I’m just going to wake up. Fortunately, as far as I can tell, it’s not a dream. And any waking up I do will be to the echoes of Italian laughter from the courtyard below. After getting in yesterday at 4:00 am, we slept till noon. When we did wake up we headed to lunch. It was delicious, and I have no idea what all it...

Going Through The Motions
Though it’s the title of just about THE only McFly song I don’t love, the words “going through the motions” pretty much sum up my day so far. We didn’t get to bed last night until about two, just because we’re not tired. So we’re trying to switch our bodies over to Italian time, but it’s just not working. We fell asleep to Joshua Radin and this...

When In Firenze...
It is best to remember that it is a catholic nation, therefore, ALL stores are closed on Sunday. Today was just another relaxing day. Assuming that there’s not too many of those left, we try to relax as much as possible. Really, it’s just an excuse to be lazy. But we really are still trying to get over our jetlag. As a result, neither Katie nor I remember if we actually stayed up...

The Forever Eternal Day of Eternal Foreverness
Guess what kids? I’m in Italy. It took a whole lot more that I thought to get here and I’ve now been through some pretty sketchy international situations, but I’m safe, I’m sound, and I’m jet-lagged like crazy. Yesterday…I think it was yesterday…Monday Katie and I left for London at 9:15. Bag check and security went quite well, and the flight was...

Domande (do'mande) -noun -plural Definition: 1....
Who? What? When ? Where? Why? How on EARTH? This has not been the week of the million dollar question, but the week of a million questions that translate into dollars depending on what I decide. Do I get the polka-dotted luggage or the less expensive and significanly less attractive black luggage? Official Space Bags or potentially crappy knock-offs? Should I get school supplies now? ...

Billy Ray Cyrus!
Yesterday, Katie and I, and our mothers, made the trip to Nashville to get papers signed for our visas. I was pretty nervous. I’m not entirely sure why, but I was. I guess I was afraid that for some reason they wouldn’t sign my papers. …silly fears. It was an adventure getting to our destination. At one point in time we took the wrong exit and stopped at Walgreens to ask the...

Just Might Be Paranoid...
As the departure date gets closer and closer, I find myself freaking out in so many ways! The latest panic-inducer came last Sunday as I was making lists of all the things I would need to take to Italy. The clothes for spring, for fall, for winter, for church, for beaches, for comfy travel to many exciting countries. Shoes, sunglasses, personal items, school supplies….and in the midst of my...

L'Italiano
So, maybe I’m insane, but recently I’ve gone on this rampage of the Italian language. Every possible item that can be changed to Italian, I have changed. My cellphone is now set to Italian. My google homepage greets me with “Ciao Megan!” My Facebook and MySpace homepages are in Italiano. I even thought about setting this blog to be Italian. But that would just be silly. In...

A Fake Boyfriend
So long story short, I have a fake boyfriend. Or at least I think I do. It’s pathetic really and rather awkward at most times… But strangely I find that in the rare moment that it is neither awkward nor pathetic, that I really enjoy it. It’s hysterical. Lately as I sit at my desk job or paint, I find my mind drifting to such things as school, future life and boyfriends....

Cinque Terre
Oh my sweet goodness. I cannot wait until September! As Katie and I were saying yesterday, I’m so jealous of me! Future me that is. I want to be me in 4 months NOW! Pretty please? It’s going to be so completely exciting. We’re going to be IN Italy, speaking Italian, seeing Italian things, breathing Italian air. Oh yay. And we get to go on cultural “tours” like, every...

Caffè di Italia
Ahh. Coffee. It’s an amazing little beverage. I frequently ask myself if life is possible without it. Today I forgot my coffee, and I have to say, life was rough. Sitting at a desk for thirteen straight hours can definitely take its toll without a little caffeine boost.I have a feeling the same will apply to classes in Italy. All that Italian on the brain will require some recharging...
