As Time Goes By

Mysterious Rooftop

Somehow I have the feeling that none of this is real and any minute I’m just going to wake up. Fortunately, as far as I can tell, it’s not a dream. And any waking up I do will be to the echoes of Italian laughter from the courtyard below.

After getting in yesterday at 4:00 am, we slept till noon. When we did wake up we headed to lunch. It was delicious, and I have no idea what all it really was. As far as I can tell it was tabouli with fresh tomatoes, parmesan and mushroom risotto, potato frittata, peas, bread, and grapes. Very tasty.

After lunch we headed down the massive hill to get our laptops registered. The hill is a killer, but it’s made better by the fact that there is a fig tree about halfway down and the whole left side of the road is an olive grove.

The school building itself isn’t that appealing, but it’s not bad. We waited in the lobby for Stefano to come and do whatever needed to be done to our computers. We were thirsty so Katie asked the secretary if there was any water. She handed us a very unchilled bottle, but there was a fridge in the student lounge, so we stuck it in. The lounge was pretty amazing and all decked out in IKEA. The fridge was empty except our bottle and another older frozen one. But when Stefano actually showed up at his office and we registered our computers with him, we went back to the lounge and VOILA! The magic fridge was full of small water bottles and tiny cans of Fanta!

Sometime, as we were sitting there, they also wheeled in an ice cream freezer. It was fully stocked as well, so we felt pretty lucky just then.

Other than that all we did yesterday was take pictures and attempt to find the roof. While we were taking pictures one of the students came up and introduced himself as Joseph. He speaks little english and I speak little Italian, so the conversation wasn’t long and we agreed to talk later when our languages had improved.
I’m really excited to get to the roof. I hear theres a great view from it, but I can’t seem to find a way to get there. It’s a mystery. And one that I’ll have to eventually solve.

You cannot escape me forever, rooftop terrace. You cannot escape me forever.
